January fun...

I am continuing to work on my rose skills to use for the cupcakes for my cousin's wedding!  I'm so happy and excited for Mallory and Cam and I'm honored that they would allow me to decorate their cupcakes.  So here are pictures of the latest attempts to get the perfect roses for the beautiful bride to be!

So here is the best I can get for a large petal buttercream rose.  It is three different shots of the same cupcake.

Now I still can't figure out the right combo to make the icing stiff enough that the petals will stand up but not so stiff that it is getting those ragged edges...those may also be caused by air bubbles from using the mixer but if you want the petals to have perfectly smooth edges I need to keep working on it!  As a note to myself it helps to have a small hill of frosting as the base to start the rose on and to keep the tip more upright until the last row of petals.

Here is my first attempt at a realistic fondant rose.  There are a few things to notice...on the outside petals I have some texture imprinted on the petals.  If you decide this is the way you want to go I will purchase the proper tools as what I have now is really for little roses and I can buy cutters and such to make larger ones that should easily cover the cupcakes.  Again this is multiple pictures of the same cupcake.

Here are a few pictures of the cupcakes side by side...

So Mallory....let me know what you think!

And just for fun here is a few pictures of the pupcakes that I'm going to make for my baby girl's first birthday party!

No January cupcakes

There will be no cupcakes this month which turned out just as well because we are taking a trip to see Chris's family and we will be getting back home the day before cupcake Sunday!  While there are no cupcakes there are Birthdays!  My mom had a birthday and I made her a fruit bouquet which I'll be posting pictures of soon.  We will also be celebrating my daughter's first birthday while visiting family and having another party here at home.  These two parties will keep me plenty busy and also give me something to post about soon!  So have a wonderful day and I'll keep you posted about birthday party details:)
